The Featherweight down jacket from Filson is exactly as described; a lightweight, portable jacket that doesn't sacrifice warmth. Described as wearing a wood-burning stove, this jacket is filled with goose down that compresses to fit into tight spaces and lofts back up into a heat-trapping cocoon, the ultimate solution for lightweight warmth this coming Winter.
Goose down consists of large spherical clusters of the soft under-plumage of gray geese, each cluster with thousands of soft filaments designed to trap heat. Filson prides themselves on using only responsibly-sourced goose down, which means that the geese that provide it are treated humanely–never live-plucked or force-fed. All goose down used in construction is traceable and certified to follow the RDS (Responsible Down Standard), and is processed in bluesign®-approved facilities.
Built from a 1.4 oz ripstop nylon, the Shell of the Feather Down Jacket is extremely light weight and offers a slight mechanical stretch. To keep the down dry, the hood, pockets and shoulders are reinforced with a sturdy nylon/cotton blend with DWR for water resistance. The elastic binding around the hood, cuffs and hem keep warmth on the inside and cold wind on the outside. The pockets include thoughtful touches such as cotton Moleskin linings and a snap closure to keep valuables secure. The two-way front coil zipper is backed by a storm flap to stop the wind, and boasts a zipper garage to prevent pinching.
